2009 ACT A Class Championship New!

On the weekend of the 14th and 15th of November the Canberra Model Yacht Club held the 2009  ACT A class Championship. There were eleven competitors, eight from NSW, one from Queensland and 2 from the CMYC, with many different boat designs. The winds were light and variable, particularly in the morning delaying starting on both days, even so there were 25 races over the two days and the final hand shake and completion of the event on Sunday was 15 minutes ahead of time. It was interesting to note that of the eleven skippers, seven won at least one race each. The weather was hot but no one seemed to mind. Plenty of shade under the trees and lots of interested spectators. It was a pleasant weekend and great to meet other yachties. We hope they will come again.

2009 ACT 10 Rater Championships New!
Fourteen boats, eight visitors and six locals, lined up for the start of the 2009 ACT 10 Rater Championships on Lake Burley Griffin. On both days the breeze was light and variable, at times a little frustrating  but nevertheless resulting in fairly close racing.
The fleet consisted of several boats of recent design, with the majority of relatively  narrow beam. After 28 races over the two days, the top three placegetters were separated by only a few points, after consistent  sailing in at times difficult conditions. The visitors took out five  of the top six places in a successful event.
